We are looking for a proactive and results-driven Business Development Manager – Financial Institutions (FIBD) to drive our growth across Sub-Saharan Africa, with a focus on high-opportunity markets such as Nigeria and Kenya. The role involves developing and managing strong relationships with financial institutions, sourcing innovative payment channels and products, and collaborating closely with sales teams to accelerate revenue growth across the region.
What will you be doing?
Identify, develop, and manage partnerships with payment service providers, acquirers, issuers, and other financial institutions across Nigeria, Kenya, and wider Sub-Saharan Africa
Source and structure new payment products and channels to enhance the company’s portfolio
Work closely with sales managers to ensure commercial success of FIBD-built and sourced products, driving adoption and achieving defined sales KPIs
Provide market insights and competitive intelligence to inform strategy, product development, and go-to-market execution
Lead negotiations with partners and stakeholders at executive and operational levels
Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of opportunities aligned with business growth objectives
Ensure proactive follow-up and ownership of initiatives, with minimal need for supervision or hand-holding
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, compliance, legal, and operations teams to ensure successful implementation and scaling of solutions
Job requirements
Proven experience (5+ years) in business development, partnership management, or sales in the payments, fintech, or financial services sectors
Strong network and understanding of payment channels, schemes, acquiring, issuing, and alternative payment methods, specifically in SSA region
Track record of achieving or exceeding revenue and partnership KPIs
Strategic thinker with the ability to translate market insights into actionable business opportunities
Strong project management skills, with experience in coordinating cross-functional teams and managing complex initiatives
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels
Excellent negotiation, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Independent, proactive, and self-driven – able to execute with minimal supervision
Fluent in English, other EU language or Chinese is a plus
Willingness to travel as required
